The whole domain

The whole domaine comprises both the auberge and the farmhouse. It gives our guests exclusive use of the main courtyard and the swimming pool which is located a short walk from the main houses. We can accommodate 16 guests in eight double rooms, including twin rooms. The auberge bedrooms are all en suite and the farmhouse has a separate shower room. There are extra less comfortably appointed mezzanine beds and children’s rooms that can be made available on application.

l’auberge

Double doors from the central courtyard lead into the huge living room of the auberge. The rustic auberge is well appointed with deep comfortable sofas surrounding the open fireplace and the library reading spaces. There are large tables for gaming, a pool table, and plenty of books, local guides and maps to browse.

The living room opens out onto a large private terrace with long views up to the oak woods and across the valley below. A few steps lead down to the first open meadow and the chemin through the woods down to the lake. From the meadow one can see clearly the the nearby Cathar village of Gaja la Selve.

The stone dining room, which has another large open fireplace, connects to both living room and kitchen, and has dining tables long enough for substantial banqueting. It is light and cool in the high summer and warm in the winter. The kitchen has wide oak worktops. There’s lots of refrigeration against the summer heat and plenty of good equipment.

Upstairs are six light and airy bedrooms, all with simple en suite bathrooms. Most have low windows, and slope up to the high open wooden beams.

In addition to the auberge, two further bedrooms (one twin, one double) are available in our farmhouse annexe.

The Farmhouse has its own entrance through a secluded sunny garden, but also backs on to a flower-filled courtyard centred on an ancient olive tree, and the entrance to the auberge. French windows lead to a large traditional main room with comfortable sofas and a wood burning stove. At the far end there is a well equipped kitchen and dining area. A well-lit wooden staircase leads to the master bedroom and a second smaller twin bedroom. They share a smart modern bathroom, with a large walk in shower and big basin set in oak.

The annexe is fully equipped and furnished. We have kept the best of the traditional French farm with its terracotta tiling and wooden beams, and combined it with our own eclectic Euroasian art style. For winter, central heating and open fires keep it snug.

It is not normally possible to book the farmhouse on its own separately from the auberge. Should you wish do do so please contact us directly, first.
